Grandma's Pie Crust
This is my Great-grandmother's pie crust recipe that has been passed down the generations.
1 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
¼ teaspoon salt
5 tbsp cold butter
2 tbsp ice water
Directions:
¼ teaspoon salt
5 tbsp cold butter
2 tbsp ice water
Directions:
- Put the flour, salt and butter in either a bowl or stand mixer (using dough hook). If in a bowl, cut the butter into the flour using either a pastry blender or 2 knifes until the mixture resembles cornmeal (just mix on low speed if using stand mixer).
- Add the water and incorporate.
- Work the mixture until it has formed a flakey dough. Roll out on a surface right away or rap and refrigerate until ready to use (allow it to warm up to a little below room temperature before attempting to roll). Put in a 9 inch pie pan and then follow your pie filling recipe after that.
